Department of Traumatology

HISTORY

For the first time in the Almaty region, a specialized department of traumatology was organized in the Almaty regional Hospital in 1968 for 30 beds. The first head was appointed Aituganov T. K.

In 1970, the Almaty State Medical Institute organized the Department of Traumatology-Orthopedics headed by Professor K. A. Palgov, MD. The Department was based on the Department of Traumatology of the Almaty Regional Clinical Hospital. The staff of the department, headed by Professor K. A. Palgov and the head of the department, T. K. Aituganov, carried out a colossal organizational, therapeutic and diagnostic and surgical treatment of patients with traumatic and orthopedic pathology, as well as training of medical personnel, training of nurses, operating nurses, plaster technicians.

With the active assistance of traumatologists and orthopedists of the regional clinical hospital, an independent department for 30 beds was opened in the village of Panfilovo of the Talgar district, in the Central Hospital of Kaskelen, from 1971-72.

By traumatologists of the OKB under the guidance of the head of the Department of Neurosurgery, prof. Azarov E. A. and associate professor Birimzhanov N. A., head of the Department of Neurosurgery Kuzhekov M. K. performed operations – trepanation of the skull, removal of intracranial hematomas, laminectomy, restoration of the integrity of peripheral nerve trunks.

In the middle of 1970, the department introduced corotid angiography of cerebral vessels, an ultrasound cutting-welding device for bone fragments, echoencephalography of the brain, and also widely introduced the use of the Ilizarov apparatus for false joints and open fractures.

From 1976 to 2012, the department was headed by a traumatologist-orthopedist of the highest category, a holder of the orders "Badge of Honor", "Kurmet", an excellent health worker of the USSR and the Republic of Kazakhstan Kazybayev Aman Kazybaevich.

Since 1991, Professor T. Zh. Sultanbayev, Head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the ASMI, was accepted as a consultant of the department. Under his leadership, hip replacement has been introduced in the department since 2009. Since 2011, osteosynthesis of tubular bones with blocking rods has been introduced.

From 2012 to 2021, the head of the department was a traumatologist-orthopedist of the highest category Malaev Talgat Amanbekovich.

 

SERVICES

Doctors and medical staff of the department provide medical care for injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system:

  • examination — clinical, laboratory, X-ray, computed tomography, cytological, histological
  • modern surgical high-quality treatment of fractures of tubular bones and intra-articular fractures
  • endoprosthetics of knee and hip joints
  • surgical treatment of fractures of the upper and lower extremities
  • surgical treatment of the consequences of limb fractures
  • surgical treatment for Hallux valgus of the feet, elimination of foot deformity
  • conservative treatment of the initial stages of arthrosis of the joints
  • surgical treatment of burn wounds.

 

Emergency operations are performed:

  • osteosynthesis of the humerus with a blocked plate and a blocked rod
  • osteosynthesis of forearm bones with a lockable plate and a lockable rod
  • osteosynthesis of the bones of the hand with a blocked plate and spokes
  • osteosynthesis of the hip with a lockable plate and a lockable rod
  • osteosynthesis of the lower leg bones with a blocked plate and a blocked rod
  • osteosynthesis of the bones of the feet with a lockable plate and spokes .
  • VCHDO by the Ilizarov apparatus of all tubular bones with open fractures and large soft tissue injuries around
  • pelvic osteosynthesis with plates, rods and screws in fractures

All types of orthopedic operations are also performed on a planned basis, such as:

  • hip replacement in coxarthrosis knee
  • replacement in gonarthrosis
  • correcting osteotomies of the bones of the upper and lower extremities as a prevention and treatment of deforming arthrosis of the extremities
  • corrective operations on the foot and ankle joint on the anterior middle and posterior parts, with static deformities of the feet (operation SCARF, SERI ,WEIL, WILSON, HOMAN, AKIN, medializing ostoetomy of the calcaneus, arthrodesis of the tarano-navicular bone, etc.)
  • revision endoprosthetics of the hip joint in case of postoperative instability of the components of the hip joint prosthesis
  • revision endoprosthetics of the knee joint in case of postoperative instability of the components of the knee joint prosthesis

 

Highly qualified specialists of the department perform all types of high-tech and specialized traumatological and orthopedic operations such as:

  • complete hip replacement
  • partial hip replacement (bipolar prosthesis)
  • revision of hip joint replacement
  • complete knee joint replacement
  • revision of knee joint replacement
  • application of an external fixing device on the pelvic bones requiring step-by-step correction
  • open reposition of pelvic bone fragments with internal fixation with a blocking extramedullary implant
  • corrective operations on the bones of the foot and ankle joint.

 

The operations are carried out with little traumatization of the surrounding tissues, without complications in the postoperative period, effective methods of rehabilitation treatment are used with specialists of rehabilitologists from abroad.

Timely recovery procedures can compensate for impaired functions and restore a person's ability to work. It is very important that the rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal system is comprehensive. To accommodate patients, the department provides cozy one-and two-bed wards equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay (an individual bathroom, a shower room, comfortable beds and much more).

 

All patients are monitored in the hospital hospital, accompanied by therapeutic nutrition, not only using the available standard diets, there is an individual approach to severe patients with protein and energy deficiency, to postoperative patients, to patients with food intolerance, as well as to patients with various kinds of combined diseases.

Hospitalization in the hospital is carried out in three streams, on a paid basis, through the portal (within the framework of the "Guaranteed volume of free medical care") and OSMS (within the framework of "Mandatory social health insurance").
